Medical Office expands using Modular Medical Building

A local Orthopedic Surgery practice in Winfield Alabama is expanding their medical offices and are using modular construction. Dr Boyett's current building was in need of additional space to accommodate the growth of the practice. Since Wilkins Mobile Builders had created a custom floor plan for his current building, he asked us to help expand the building. By using modular construction, additional office space was added to the existing building with little interruption to the daily office work. This new modular addition was added to the rear of the building making for a seamless expansion of space. Modular Building not just temporary buildings / solutions

Modular building are not just temporary movable buildings. Permanent modular buildings make up approximately fourty percent of the total modular construction industry's $5 billion in annual revenues in North America. Permanent modular buildings are considered real property which are built to the same building codes and requirements as traditional site built structures. because of this, they are depreciated in a similar manner. To know more about modular building solutions, visit our website www.WilkinsMobile.com.

Modular Construction is more resource efficient and inherently greener

Based on a study by the National Research Council, modular construction is more resource efficient and inherently greener construction process than traditional construction. Some of the factors that result in a greener construction process include:

  • Greater use of prefabrication
  • Reductions in material waste
  • Reductions in air and water pollution
  • Reduced noise and dust
  • The overall energy cost used to complete a building
Our modular building are more environmentally friendly process and a recognized long term solution by many agencies and organizations. To see how you can benefit from modular construction, visit our website www.WilkinsMobile.com.

Modular School Building equals improved student safety

From single classrooms to complete campuses, modular construction offers public, private, and charter schools what other construction methods can not. The accelerated project timelines. more economical pricing, and less disruption are all benefits of modular construction. Perhaps most importantly, using off site construction technology, open construction sites are greatly reduced while school is in session. This benefits is the result of the building being constructed off site vs traditional construction which occurs on site. Students are safer and teachers can compete with less disruptions. You can view more photos of our modular building solutions for educators and classroom by visiting our website www.WilkinsMobile.com.

New Model Floor Plan for Pharmacy and DME Retail Stores

We've just finished a new model floor plan for our Pharmacy and DME retail store customers. This new model providers room for retail sales and adds a consultation or minute clinic to our standard floor plan. With the increase in pharmacy and DME owners offering their customers Flu Shots and Nurse Practitioner Consultations, our new floor plan allow easy integration of these services. Another change is the ability to easily adjust the square footage dedicated to retail sales. With this new floor plan, customer looking for less retail space simply remove one of the modular floors and reduce the overall retail space in half. To see a larger copy of this new floor plan, visit our website www.WilkinsMobile.com or just click here.

Environmental Impacts of Traditional Construction Vs Modular Construction

The preliminary results from a recent study showed that impacts from off-site (modular) construction were generally lower than those from on-site (traditional) construction. The average on-site construction impacts were about 23% higher than off-site construction. The generation of construction waste is another important topic. Data for materials that have to be sent to be recycled or sent to a landfill is less also. Modular Builders produce less waste and send far less to a landfill than traditional construction. The strategy of ordering 5 percent or 10 percent extra material - common for traditional construction - is very uncommon in modular construction. The "just in time" delivery of materials and the general policy to not begin construction on a modular building until all materials have been procured probably explains this phenomenon. If you looking to reduce the environmental impact of your construction project, visit our website www.WilkinsMobile.com to find a modular solution.

Primary Benefits of Permanent Modular Construction

Unique to modular construction, while modules are being assembled in a factory, site work is occurring at the same time or in some cases prior to construction. This allows for much earlier building occupancy and contributes to a much shorter overall construction period, reducing labor, financing and supervision costs. The major benefits can be summer up as follows:

  1. Streamlined Construction process
  2. Resource efficient - Less labor and fewer materials wasted
  3. Reduced environmental impact - less site damage, less material exposure and less waste in landfill

Reason #5 Quicker Occupancy - Why Modular Buildings over Steel Buildings

Everyone want to be able to move in to their new location or building as soon as possible. With modular construction you can open that new location or expand your current building fast than steel buildings or metal buildings. Modular Buildings have less delays due to weather conditions and allow for simultaneous construction.

  • Weather Delays - Both modular buildings and steel building require foundation work be completed in preparation for your new building. They differ in the next step in the construction process. Construction of site built steel buildings or metal buildings are often negatively impacted by the weather. Our modular building are constructed in a climate controlled 65,000 square feet assembly line facility. If it's raining outside, the construction process continues inside our facility avoiding costly delays.
  • Simultaneous Construction - Get twice as much done in the same time period. Unlike steel buildings or metal buildings, both the foundation work and the construction of the building can occur at the same time. While your preparing your site, we'll be constructing your new buildings. This speeds up the construction time by allow both foundation work and building construction to occur simultaneously. How much time can this save? It can gat you in you new modular building by as much so 9 months faster.
These two benefits of modular construction not only saves you time, but money. You can learn more about the benefits of modular building construction by visiting our website www.WilkinsMonile.com or by clicking here.

Reason #6 Interior Completed - Why Modular Building Over Steel Buildings

One of the biggest differences between a steel building or metal building and modular building is you purchasing a complete building. With steel building construction, your purchasing just the shell or exterior walls of a building. Modular building are delivered to your location with all the interior work completed. The electrical wiring, plumbing, flooring, and interior walls or rooms are already finished. This difference has numerous benefits:

  • Save Money on Total Building Cost - Our customer can take advantage of the power of buying in large quantity. Unlike like the local builder who purchases materials for a single project at a time, we purchase our materials in bulk for multiple ongoing construction projects. This results in a lower price for the building materials and the resulting modular building.
  • Save Money on General Contract Expenses - Since your building is delivered as a completed building, there is no need to hire a general contractor to construct the interior components of the building.
  • Save Money on Drafting and Design Services - Everyone need to have blueprints of the building they plan to construct. Included in the price of your modular building are all the blueprints and engineering layouts needed to complete the construction.
  • Save Time with Simultaneous Construction - While your preparing your site, we'll completing your modular building. With steel building or metal building construction methods, the building is built in stages as each component is completed. First the site must be prepared then the building shell is built and last the interior is completed. Modular construction method allows for your to prepare you site while we complete you building. This can reduce to time from start of construction to completion by as much as 9 months.

Reason #7 Quality Control - Modular Building vs Steel Buildings

The Quality Control process for a modular building is far more expensive than than of a steel building. Modular designs are reviewed extensively by Engineers for structural concerns, 3rd Party Agencies for code compliance, and State Modular review programs. This process of checks and balances ensures your building meets guidelines of ADA, Life Safety, and Natural Disaster codes. Wilkins own Quality Control Manager and 3rd Party Agencies review your building throughout the construction process. Since a steel building or metal building is only the shell of the building, code compliance is handled in two phases. The first phase deals directly with the building structure or shell and the second phase of the interior components is handled is the interior is built. This lack of review of a building as a whole, is far below the quality standards in a modular building. You can learn more about the benefits of modular construction by visiting our website www.WilkinsMobile.com or by clicking here.

Reason #8 Simultaneous Construction - Modular Building vs Steel Building

When comparing modular buildings to steel building, one very important difference is to fact a modular building allow for simultaneous construction. You modular building is built off site at the same time your prepare your location (foundation work and site prep). With steel buildings and traditional construction, work on the building structure can not begin until all of the site preparation and foundation work are complete. Modular building methods greatly speeds up the occupancy  time compared to steel buildings. You can learn all the benefits of modular construction by visiting our website or by clicking here.

Why Buy Modular vs Steel Building - #8 Weather Delays

As we have discussed before, modular building offer several benefits to steel building construction or traditional construction methods. One of these benefits is the reduction in construction delays due to weather. Using modern modular construction techniques, all of the work is performed in the controlled environment of our 65,000 square foot facility. This allows for construction of your building to continue on schedule regardless of the  weather outside. Metal building construction can come to a halt and results in numerous delays due to changing weather conditions. You can learn more about the benefits of modular construction, by visiting our website (www.WilkinsMoblie.com) or clicking here.

Modular Construction - Its what you can't see that matters

Modular design and construction has several obvious benefits. The assembly line method of Modular Construction speeds up the construction process. It allows for complete control of building components, and providers higher quality than methods used in traditional construction. These benefits of Modular Construction result in less cost of construction financing and quicker occupancy providing you up to 50% savings over conventional construction or steel buildings.

Some of the other benefits of modular construction aren't things you can see. Such as the effort to increased energy efficiency and reinforcements to the structure of a modular building. We thought we'd show some of what is never seen. To improve the energy efficiency of a modular building, each light and plug receptacle has extra caulking to reduce the heating and cooling air loss. Wall joist and roof truss systems are reinforced to increase structural strength. Our roof truss system's design exceeds that of other modular building systems with the use of

Simultaneous Construction - The Biggest Benefit of Modular Building Systems

One of the biggest advantages of modular building systems is simultaneous construction. Modular Construction allows for on-site and off-site construction to occur simultaneously. Work on the excavation & foundation happens at the same time as the building component of the construction process. While a general contractor is working on the excavation and foundation of your site, we're busy building a customer designed commercial modular building. As an added bonus, with modular construction, all of the work is performed in the controlled environment of our 65,000 square foot facility. Traditional construction can expose materials to adverse weather conditions effecting the quality of the building components and resulting in significant delays. Temporary Housing Request on the Increase

Alabama's Office of Workforce Development recently annouced that 500 temporary workers will be needed to assist in the cleanup of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico. With the current lack of temporary housing in Alabama and Louisana, we've seen the request for floor plans to be used as short term housing and motels increase.

Our modular buildings include a solution for both these areas. Our bunk house floor plan offer a common living and kitchen area with 2 separate bedrooms and adjacent baths. With the recovery period estimated to extend for months, many companies are opting to purchase this prefabricated structures vs using extended stay hotels. In other cases, our customer are expanding their current number of available rooms by added a modular hotel / modular motel to their properties. Since we can complete a modular building in 30 days, our customer can respond to the increased demand rapidly.

Mississippi Tornadoes and Our Modular Buildings

Officials from the the Federal Emergency Management Agency will get an air and ground view today of the deadly devastation from this weekend's tornadoes damage in Mississippi and Alabama. Based on the tornado images coming out of Yazoo County and Yazoo city, the tornadoes damage totals will not be available for several days.

We’re hopefully that our modular buildings experienced no damage. Our prefab buildings survived the hurricanes along the Gulf Coast. Our banks and credit unions withstood Ivan and our hotel outlasted Hurricanes Katrina, Rita, and Gustav. Modular designs are reviewed extensively by Engineers for structural concerns, 3rd Party Agencies for code compliance, and State Modular review programs. We expect many of our lease buildings to be used as temporary offices and part of the disaster recovery plan. Our building consultants can provide a listing of the modular building available and can be reached at (205) 489-2991.
